All units, which will be independently certified Energy Star Homes, will offer the following advantages:
  • Lower utility bills. Energy conservation measures will result in energy savings for unit owners of approximately 25% - 35% below utility costs for units of this size built using standard construction techniques.
  • Quality construction. Energy Star homes cost less to operate because they feature the best building practices and technologies, including increased insulation levels, high performance windows, and high efficiency heating and air conditioning. All units will be inspected and performance tested by a third party energy conservation specialist.
  • Thermal comfort. Well-insulated, energy-efficient homes are generally also the most comfortable to live in because they perform better. Warmer interior surface temperatures, created by energy efficient detailing, reduce the amount of radiant heat occupants lose to those surfaces. As a result, occupants feel warmer and more comfortable. In summer, surface temperatures are cooler, also resulting in greater comfort levels.
  • Assured indoor air quality. As opposed to relying on the variability of outdoor air temperature and wind conditions to provide ventilation through unintentional leaks and gaps in the building envelope, mechanical ventilation in a high performance home can provide fresh air at exactly the recommended rate. "Building tight and ventilating right" ensures that the homeowner is provided with a controlled supply of clean and healthy air at all times, and that indoor particulates, odors, and excessive moisture are removed. As a result, many high performance homeowners report fewer colds and allergy symptoms.
  • Lessened environmental and global impact. An Energy Star Home uses 70% or less of the energy required for heating, cooling and hot water than a home built to the national Model Energy Code. Energy Star appliances are also designed to use less energy. This efficiency has a direct and significant environmental benefit, and results in reduced air pollution. And, energy efficiency helps reduce the nation’s dependence on foreign oil supplies.
